Scholarship Amount: We will award at least two $5,000 scholarships. Additional scholarships may be awarded in varying amounts.
Application Deadline: The application deadline is August 15, 2025.
Eligibility:
⮚ Open to high school seniors or college students attending or planning to attend an accredited community college, four-year college or university, vocational school, or trade school in the United States for a minimum of 12 credit hours.
⮚ Must have a parent that is a current employee (sworn or non sworn) of the Dallas Police Department, a retired uniformed (sworn) employee, or serving in the Dallas Police Reserve Battalion. Parent needs a minimum of two (2) years of service as an employee with the Dallas Police Department. Parents who are police officers (uniformed/sworn employees) can be active duty, lost in the line of duty, retired, or permanently disabled in the line of duty.
Requirements to Apply:
⮚ You have been accepted for enrollment or are enrolled in a two or four-year undergraduate program in an accredited college, university, vocational school, trade school
⮚ Students are required to provide proof of enrollment at a high school or college (for example, a high school or college transcript)
⮚ Unofficial high school, home school or college transcript (must include GPA, or GPA can be included on resume); we encourage all students to apply, regardless of GPA
⮚ Essay (prompt is in the application)
⮚ Photo (does not need to be a professional photo)
⮚ Resume
⮚ Interview (if requested; we will reach out directly to schedule)
⮚ A completed application packet
Other Information:
⮚ Scholarship will be awarded at the Friends of the Dallas Police Awards Banquet in November 2025. See The Friends of Dallas Police Website for details: https://www.friendsofthedallaspolice.org/.
⮚ At a minimum, the parent employed or retired from the Dallas Police Department must attend the Banquet or a family representative approved by The Anita Ruiz Family Foundation.
⮚ Scholarship recipients will be selected before the Banquet.
